Sodium hydroxide (16 g) in water (400 mi) was added to a solution of Intermediate 27 (13 g) in MeOH (60 ML). The mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature, then evaporated in vacuo. The solution was washed with Et2O (50 ml), acidified with concentrated hydrochloric acid to pH 2 and extracted with EtOAc (100 ML), the solvent washed with brine (50 ML), dried (MGS04) and evaporated to give the title compound as a colourless solid (10.2 g).
